First of all, let me say that the HSG hurt like a motherfucker. I think they got the custodian to do it because that dude was not a doctor. He couldn't find my cervix and had to use the speculum two (or three?) times. The catheter hurt, he said I was having a uterine spasm, I don't know if he made that up or what but something went wrong. Ouchity ouch ouch.
As I lay there crying and in the most pain I've had in years, I thought two things to myself:
1) Jesus, I hope the IUI doesn't hurt like this, and
2) How in the world am I going to have a BABY?
thoughts?
PS all tubes are clear, I saw the proof with my own two tearful eyes. Cramps are gone and I'm home to sleep it off.

My HSG hurt really bad too! But after going through 6 IUI procedures, and a few more related to the IVF but those were anesthetized, I can honestly say that the HSG was the MOST painful procedure I've been through in this fertility battle. So the rest is easy peasy!
Glad it's all clear, and definitely glad it's OVER!!!
so glad tubes are all clear, but the hsg sounded horrific. as far as an iui hurting like that, it definitely did not for me. at the most, it had the same discomfort as a pap smear, and was much quicker. the first one was the most uncomfortable, mostly because i was really nervous and didn't know what to expect, but the second and third were nothing. i hope it is the same for you!
i hope you are feeling better. can't wait to follow you through your first iui.
Oh I am so sorry it hurt! Mine wasn't very pleasant either! But, you got great news! Waaahhhoooo! That's wonderful.
Eek! Sorry it was so terrible, but glad all is clear. If it makes you feel better, the HSG is by far the most painful thing I have done to this point. Don't worry about the IUI...I promise it's much better.
New reader here - you and I have very similar diagnoses and are at about the same stage. For some reason, my first doc didn't order an HSG before my first IUI - my new doc is recommending one before we move forward (so you can imagine how thrilled I am to read this post.) That said, the IUI doesn't hurt a bit. As someone else commented, it's similar to the discomfort of a pap smear. Hope you recover quickly!
I'm sorry that the HSG was so painful! ...but it's good that everything is all clear and that you are good to go! :)
My HSG was absolutely awful. Took them over an hour just to insert the cath, and they almost gave up! I had at least 4 people in the exam room, pushing on my abdomen, holding the speculum, etc.
When my RE heard all this, he insisted on a trial transfer (I'm doing IVF). He couldn't find the IVF caths, which are very thin, so he used an IUI one istead, which is also pretty thin. He was in and out in less than 30 seconds. And I wasn't on Valium or Advil, like I was with my HSG.
Point is, one of those doctors (RE) inserts caths for a living. The other (radiologist or whatever)...does not. It makes a huge difference!!
As for the baby part...well, still working on it, but I'll let you know unless you get there first!
Oh sweet heaven that thing does hurt like a mofo.
